What Is a High-Quality Microfiber Towel?

Nov. 27, 2020

 100% Polyester Microfiber Towels

There are four ways to check whether your towel is a high-quality Microfiber Terry Towel.

Are all microfiber towels the same? No, there is a difference between a good cleaning towel and a low-quality product. This can be based on many factors, such as the type of microfiber towel, the quality of the microfiber itself, GSM, etc. When buying microfiber towels, you really need to consider the following three aspects:

1. How dry is it?

2. How well does it absorb dust?

3. How long will it last?

So, how can you tell if you own all 3 types of towels above? We designed 4 simple tests to determine if your towel meets the quality threshold. These tests only apply to general-purpose microfiber towels, which are the most popular type of towels. Not all of these tests are suitable for flat woven microfiber towels, such as glass, suede and waffle weaves, because they are uniquely woven for specific cleaning purposes. The best part is that you can easily make them in your own home! Please refer to the 4 tests on high-quality microfiber towels below!

Water test: Does it absorb water?

High-quality microfiber towels will absorb spills instead of pushing them to the surface. For many reasons, microfiber is more absorbent than cotton. That being said, not all microfiber towels are created equal! High-quality towels should be better than low-quality towels to dry and clean up spills faster. Therefore, please perform a water test to see if your microfiber towel is absorbent.

1. Pour water on a smooth surface

2. Put the microfiber cleaning towel on the surface, and then slowly slide it towards the puddle

3. Observe how the towel interacts with water. Does it: absorb water like a vacuum cleaner, push the water away or somewhere in between?

4. Will it quickly wick on the towel?

If your towel pushes the water away, it is not very absorbent. You need a towel like a vacuum to absorb the water and then wick it through the towel. These are signs of superabsorbent microfiber towels. Make sure your microfiber towel has polyester to polyamide ratio of 80/20 or 70/30. There are many disputes about which of these mixtures is better. Some people say that one is better for cleaning, the other is better for drying, and others say there is no difference at all. Of course, you will soon discover that there are other factors that also affect quality. No matter where you stand, everyone agrees that your microfiber towel must be between these ratios. Make sure to avoid using 100% polyester microfiber towels.

Touch test: Will it catch and hold it?

High-quality microfiber towels are easy to pick up and stick to dust. You want to make sure that the microfiber towel has a "grip" feel. The more "feel" the towel has, the more dirt, dust, water and even bacteria will be absorbed! Don't worry, the elastic feeling will not deviate from the softness of the fabric, so you don't have to worry about scratching any delicate things. Therefore, this is how to perform a touch test:

1. Put your hand on the towel and ask yourself the following questions.

2. Is the fabric soft?

3. Will you use it on car finishes?

4. Will the material catches the blemishes on the skin and be caught by you?

If the towel is grasped by the hand, it is split from superfine fibers. The high-quality fabric has undergone a splitting process, making the cross-section of the fiber look like an asterisk. The space left by this process allows your clothes to pick up dirt and absorb liquids. If your cloth does not crack, it will not be more effective than cotton towels in cleaning. Another factor that affects the cleanliness of towels is the size of each fiber. The smaller the fiber, the more it absorbs. The unit of superfine fiber is denier, which is the diameter of each fiber. By definition, ultrafine fibers must be less than 1 denier, equal to 10 microns. The cleanliness of high-quality microfiber towels is usually less than 0.5 denier. This makes it small enough to pick up all kinds of bacteria, bacteria and microorganisms!

Thickness test: is it durable?

This helps them to wash multiple times without compromising effectiveness or wear. The durability of a microfiber towel is measured by its thickness, which means that it will continue to be washed more times, and the possibility of abrasion or spreading is greatly reduced. After the microfiber towel is properly maintained, it should last hundreds of times! There are two methods to test the thickness of microfiber towels. Weight test

1. Weigh the towel (if you have a GSM scale)

2. It is at least 250 GSM microfiber towels (GSM = grams per square meter)

The heavier the weight of the microfiber towel, the more microfiber it has. GSM has a wide variety of microfiber towels because they can be used for multiple tasks. But based on experience, high-quality towels must have at least 250 GSM or more.

Sunlight and tensile test:

1. Take the towel outside in the sun

2. Stretch the towel while keeping direct sunlight

3. Is it easy to stretch?

4. Can you shine through the sun like cheesecloth?

If you see a lot of sunlight or the towel stretches easily, you do not have a good quality towel. It is also important to check the tightness of the towel. Make sure the edges are stitched well to prevent fraying.

If it passes all 4 tests, you have a high-quality microfiber towel
